Fashionable Relay Challenge

Ok, first things first, I have to thank Sasy for this suggestion and little kick up the bum prompt for getting me back into blogging, yes its time for me to stand up and confess, I’ve been a ‘tard, its been a few days (ok, a few more then I’d like to consider) since my last blog.

But of course, who could pass up an opportunity to go shopping on purpose? ;D

Thanks to Teagan Blackthorne for passing the baton & off I run………

I’ve gone with a Tuli skin as my baton, Teagan had a custom skin from Tuli’s Kalista range and I’ve gone with one of Tuli’s new Natalia skins, its very girly I love the sweet freckles, all the skin tones are very natural – mine is sunkissed.

I’m heading out dancing with a friend this weekend so with any sexy dance ensemble I start from the bottom up.  When it comes to dancing, shoes matter! A.L.S. A.L.S.!! Always Look Sexy!!  I’ll let you in on a secret though – the more comfortable your shoes, the longer you’ll keep partying away & stay looking sexy all night long.  Taking your shoes off at any point in the night is NOT sexy!! You won’t have that issue with the Maitreya Soho Special Edition Brown Boots, from running out to catch the cab, to leaving the club & heading to the diner afterwards, you might not want to take them off even once you do get home *wink*

So working from my Soho’s upwards comes to my shorts, ahhhhhh I could honestly live in shorts all year around…. well ok I pretty much do.   I love going out in them too, they’re great to dance in, especially if you can’t help but jump up on a stage if the club (who? me up on stage? Both Sasy & Aaren keep telling me I’m a Rawkstar so yar, ok, I guess I like a little bit of the spotlight now & then ;D).  These are the ‘nikukyu’ shorts from MNK, & its practically a guaranteed bet that if you haven’t been there before, you’ll buy the whole store.  After I post this blog I’m heading back there, I promise I’ll leave a few select items for you to fight it out over.

Attention boys – Catfight now in progress at MNK!!

Now for my shirt…… ohhhhhhhh I spotted the ‘Valerie’ Blouse at LeeZu Baxter a couple of weeks ago when I was looking for an outfit to wear at the Bushfire Charity Auction.  Voshie & I were talking about them while I was back there tonight & even though I had already bought the olive coloured shirt to go with the shorts from MNK, I ended up getting the fatpack. Now its my mission to wear every single one of them but I know that won’t be hard because the colours go with just about everything in my wardrobe.  I’ve chosen to go sheer with the shirt to show off my best assets and am wearing the scrumptious ‘Babara’ chocolate corset from Insolence underneath.

Accessories-wise, which I don’t tend to wear a lot of so have gone with some old favourite ‘Brown wood bangles’ from Fishy Strawberry on my right arm and the ‘Nostalgia’ necklace and braclet on my left arm from LouLou.  Hair by Maitreya (oooooh i didn’t realise, top & bottom by Maitreya, lololol) ‘Apple’ in Pitch (Ok so who isn’t wearing one of Maitreya’s new styles at the moment, but honestly they are all just gorgeous!)

/me shimmies up to Chance Greatrex and hands over the Baton, have fun!

Now I just have to hope that my dancing partner can keep up with me all night long ;)

Skin: ‘Natalia’ Tuli

Tattooes: ‘Give me poison’, from Garden of Ku

The Linden Lab takeover of XstreetSL & Onrez

I love how Prad’s blog offers a blend of funny and serious topics & today’s was an interesting, well written (as always) & though provoking statement about Linden Lab’s recent notice about their take over of Xstreet SL & Onrez.

I’m not going to say I got my rant on, because that wasn’t the case at all, but I certainly felt compelled to give my two cents worth on the topic as I know everyone is talking about the negative aspects of this.

I’m not dismissing that there are negative implications to this change.  But with all changes, there is opportunity as well.  So I’ve copied below my response on Prad’s blog about this recent change (opportunity).

“I know a lot of people see the doom & gloom in this, I agree that this is further monopolisation by LL – but how much of this is bad & how much of this is good?

I think we often lose sight of the fact, that while this is a virtual world, behind it is an organisation which, like most organisations, is driven by profit.

Without profit, this (our) world would not exist.
Lets not lose sight of that.

Personally, I feel that anything which improves the search facilities of SL is a good thing, the way LL have gone about doing this is a clever and smart business decision.

This also opens the doors for a multitude of opportunity. SLX & Onrez while convenient & a hell of a lot more effective then the inworld search, both have their pitfalls.  Its simply that no one has taken the initiative to create competitve marketplaces to these – possibly now with the impending changes, more individuals with the skills to do this will be looking at how to set this up.

Prad, you make a valid comment about ‘larger’ stores being driven to offworld sites that encourage people to purchase their items for inworld delivery – how different is this to a RL situation of (retail) businesses creating a web presence & further promotion of their business?

This is definitely one avenue that I’m sure many businesses will be pursuing, along with businesses collaborating together to create their own offworld marketplaces.

Retail sim owners! What a great opportunity for you to consider setting up a website that offers an offworld marketplace for the stores on your sim, along with a blog, where your store owners are contributors and can not only promote & advertise when new products are released but give residents the convenience to purchase these items inworld & out of it?????”

Yes LL have done this to further themselves, but lets not discount the opportunities that are presented to residents & business owners to further grow the Secondlife Community by promoting SL through external promotion of their businesses.

Comments welcome

Photography Series: Naked, Modest

If you’ve seen my Flickr stream recently then you may have seen that I’m currently doing a series titled ‘Naked, Modest’.

 There are several goals I’m hoping to achieve with this series;

- Create an artistic collection of people from all walks of Secondlife, share a vision with them and hopefully, do them justice in portraying them through my eyes,

- Meet &/or catch up with flickr friends, & make some new ones ;)

- Create a series of custom poses to be made available for sale inworld,

- Develop my inworld photography & post editing skills.

If you are interested to be involved, please read further;

- Please IM me & send me a notecard inworld with your name & ‘naked modest’ as the name of the notecard, please include on the nc the times you are frequently inworld.

- After receiving your message, I’ll IM you & have a chat with you, ask you a few questions & answer any queries you have about the sitting – It might take me a few days to get in touch so if you haven’t heard from me after 3-4 days, please send me another message.

- To bring out your personality & define who you are, please have a think about your image beforehand, eg, what skin / hair / jewellery / piercings / tattooes / appendages (tails/ears/horns/wings) & clothing you would like to be wearing at the sitting.  If there are a couple of options you want to try I’m happy to do a few photos of each until I feel that we have a look that I believe shows your personality.

- For individuals, it’s my aim to create a custom pose for each person who sits for me, a great deal of my inspiration is drawn from you and how I want to portray you. Which is why I ask that you think about your ‘Image’ especially if you have Tattoes / piercings or tails / ears / hooves.

- Couples, yes please!!! I want to take your photo too, however I haven’t made any couples poses so am currently sourcing poses from other creators.  If you have a pose that you would like to use, please let me know and if it stays within the theme of this series, I’d love to use it.  I’ll need to know the details of the creator to ensure I give acknowldegements of who has made the pose.

- The poses I’m creating for this series will not necessarily be only reclining ones – I am very happy to hear your ideas on what you would like to be doing in the image, please just keeping in with the ‘Naked, Modest’ theme.

- Depending on what I have going on inworld at the time, it can take a few days for me to make your custom pose but I will be in touch to let you know how I’m going with it.  Once I’ve finished, I’ll let you know when I’m ready to go and we can work out a time to do the sitting – YAY!

- The sitting itself takes approximately 20-30 minutes. I do take several photos from different angles, all that I ask is that you have your ‘look’(s) worked out beforehand. I’d really appreciate it if you keep it to only 2-3 different looks.

- Post editing of your photograph usually takes 2-3 hours. It can take me a couple of days to sit down and really focus on the image and give it my full focus. Thank you for your paitence :)

- I am only doing one image per person, irrespective of the number of photographs I take at the sitting.

- This collection is about my passion as a photographer and my desire to improve my skills – I am not charging for the effort I put into my images, however if you feel inclined to show some appreciation, I’ll gladly accept it ;)

- If you would like me to take more images of you, I am happy to discuss a longer session &/or other poses & additional photographs however this will be at a cost to you and we can negotiate this at the time of your enquiry.

- Upon completion of your photograph, I’ll be posting it on Flickr and will send you a full permission copy of it inworld – very important I have Creative Commons applied to my images so that they are to be used only for your own personal purposes.

- However, in saying that, I’d be overjoyed to hear that you’ve been approached by a Creator of your tattooes / piercings / clothing / appendages wanting to display your Portrait in their Store/Gallery,

PLEASE ask them to contact me so that I am made aware and we can discuss how to best show your Portrait and some acknowledgement is given to me as Photographer.

Looking forward to having you on my flickr stream ^_^

Dear Mallory

Mallory, I’m honestly disgusted and dismayed that you chose to remove my comment from your flickr page.

I made no accusations against either party but simply stated that Ellettra should get all the facts before judging either party on who has done what.

Yes I did post a link to Hart’s PXL blog, however if you had an issue with this, you could have contacted me directly & request to remove it, which you didn’t do.

I also notice that you’ve chosen to mute me from your flickr stream as well – just so you know, I’m honestly not bothered because yesterday was the first time I had ever visited your flickrstream and its no loss to me now that I can’t view it any longer.

RaC were my first set of high quality skins. My partner at the time bought them for me, & I absolutely adored them. Additionally I purchased your skins for a good friend of mine as well. And when your smokey eye skins were released, I purchased a set of thse those as well.

Additionally, I have also purchased clothing and hair from you in the past – as far as inworld store owners are concerned, I’m a dream customer – I will always pay for quality and support a designer when I feel they offer good quality well made merchandise.

When I first saw Hart’s PXL ‘Crys’ skins I felt that they were original and unique to anything else I had seen at the time and they then became my favourite skins. To this day, I still wear them a lot, along with my other PXL skins that are now part of my wardrobe.

Yes, I freely admit that of the 1000+ skins I have, I wear PXL skins at least 75% (if not more) of my time inworld.

As a long term SL resident, I’ve become familar with the history between you and Hart, and I believe that Hart has genuinely been open with what happened in the days when he first started selling skins – he has acknowledged what he did was wrong and as soon as his wrong doing was brought to his attention he dealt with the situation quite promptly.

However, it seems that you hold a grudge that goes beyond even Hell freezing over.

Now that Hart is slowly (because of LL stuffing up – which is what he has commented on his blog about, there are no comments referring to you or Laqroki) building his store & presence inworld back up, you choose to make the same accusations that you did back in August/September.

Many skin makers out there use the same bases that you use, thats pretty common knowledge – in fact there are a few skin makers out there who’s faces strike extremely similar features to your own, however you have never made an attempt towards them to address the copy infringements you have repeatedly accused Hart of which is predominantly based on the hands and feet of your skins.

You state that you raised a DCMA against Hart back in September, using the evidence that you are now posting in your flickr stream. If the case was ‘dropped’ by Linden Labs, then you are within your entitlements to seek other forms of legal action.

You state that you have in the past wanted to deal with this privately which is a crock because those of us who saw your blog posts have seen your recent flickr image was on your blog post back in August/September.

If it was truly the case that you wanted to deal with this privately then you would be liasing with Hart directly, not invovling the rest of the Secondlife community suggesting over and over again that Hart is continually ripping off your skins.

If you truly feel you have a case and truly want to take action against Hart, then do so, don’t go dragging his name through the mud based on suggestion and accusation alone.

It is tiresome and extremely unprofessional to continue these allegations in public.

I for one, have now decided to boycott all of your creations inworld as I find your behaviour to be anti competitive and unprofessional.

Where I have noticed designers items have been ripped, I will always contact the designer who’s work has been copied and advise them of the situation. You don’t see me notifying the rest of the world about it – its for the direct parties involved to deal with the situation & if they can’t resolve it, then address with with Linden Labs by way of a DCMA and then if you still feel the case hasn’t been resolved take further legal action.

Remove the image or make a case – back up your statements by dealing with this privately or move on, because right now you’re not doing yourself any favours.

A little bit of Art

Dizzy Banjo recently sent a notice out to his group asking for volunteers to be involved in a podcast he was shooting about Glyph Graves who had created a wind sculpture.  Its very unique and interesting as Glyph has mapped sound to SL wind.

The environment that Glyph chose to visually represent this mapping is reminiscent of being deep in the ocean, with jellyfish & other deep sea creatures swimming around you.   Its a very calm and tranquil environment, and worth a visit if you’re looking for something a little different.

Visit the sculpture inworld here.

Winter Magic at Black Swan

Have you been to the Black Swan sim for the Winter Magic Fashion Event?  If not, now is the perfect opportunity to visit the sim fee free (normally you have to purchase a watch or choker which you wear to enter the sim, which retails for L199, I’ll update this if I’ve got the amount wrong).

The entire sim itself is a sculptural art Masterpiece, constructed by Light Waves who mysteriously disappeared off the grid without a word and has not been heard from for sometime.  The sim is reminiscent of an old PC game that was released many moons ago called Myst.  The game consisted of serveral different cryptic puzzles which you were required to complete before moving onto the next level, enabling you to move further around the Isle of Myst to determine what had happened to several of the characters in the game’s storyline.  You could almost say, that with the disappearance of Light Waves, Art has imitated Life, of course except on this occasion, its virtual art which bears some resemblence to a virtual life.

In addition to Light Waves ethereal sculptures, there is also a stunning piece of permanent art there by Unreal McCoy, ‘Fetus’ (sic), and a quirky structure by Bryn Oh, I don’t know how long it has been there and I’m not sure of the name of it but what I can tell you that an interesting insect character, who seems to be quite timid when you approach him, resides at the top ;)

Aside from the art, its also currently about fashion and the main purpose of my blog today.   I have to say, that after having attended a few Fashion events at both Black Swan and Crimson Shadow (both owned & run by Rezzable), the designers this season have really gone all out to produce some of the most stunning fashion on the grid at the moment.  I count my lucky stars that I got my hands on some of the outfits as I model for Nocturne Modelling Agency and strutted my stuff in the first of three fashion shows held at Black Swan.

The Designers that are involved in the event this season include: {Zaara}, Silent Sparrow, Paper Couture, Bijou, Casa Del Shai,  DP-Yumyum, Rebe Xtravaganza, Sn@tch, Lazy Places, Soo…. Obscene Skins, Moonshine Design, Vooner, Blue Blood, Sysy’s, Callie Cline, Eat Rice, Kookie, Philotic Energy, The Stringer Mausoleum (TSM), Denchu Dench.

Whilst I’m only going to highlight today what I wore down the catwalk, I can’t talk highly enough about all the beautiful designs now available at the Black Swan sim.  Go see for yourself and after your retail jaunt, take some time to stroll around this beautiful place.

Clothes: Bijou, ‘Moonlight’ / ‘Amethyst’, short style (beautiful hand drawn silk, delicate lace and feathers).  Perfect for cocktail parties this season, just make sure you find a big warm jacket to wear outdoors while getting from place to place.  The fabrics are light and delicate and the colouring will flatter any skin tone, when you purchase this outfit, you actually get 3 dresses in one, the value of these outfits is astounding and I admit with only a little tinge of jealousy that Mavi outshone me when we both wore our Bijou, the floor length dress literally shines!

Hair: Philotic Energy, ‘Odette’ Charcoal (this is not the style I wore on the catwalk but had to show it off anyway, I just adore it, the pearls are a lovely touch and the way the fringe sweeps across your brow finishes this style off very nicely!)

Skin: Obscene, ‘Freya’ No Glitter (you must must MUST check out these skins they are just gorgeous!!)

Eyes & Lashes: Obscene (they come in the skin pacs). My GOD these Lashes are stunning, I’ve done very little adjusting to them and perfectly compliment the skins and the eyes are nothing short of startling.

Shoes: Kookie Lemon, ‘Phoebe Snow Drop’. These are a beautiful pair of silk covered heels that perfectly compliment all of the Bijou dresses and would go just as well with a pair of tailored pants or a short skirt and winter tights.

This is a cute fun little outfit from Rebel Xtravaganza, a designer that I hadn’t heard about until now but I know that I will be visiting their main store very soon!!

Clothes: Rebel Xtravaganza, ‘Not Your Average Fairytale’ Charcoal/Gold, winter warm and cosy fabrics with cute striped stockings, available in 4 different colours; Charcoal/Gold (worn), Charcoal/Purple (very Regal), Charcoal/Red (everyone will gather around you to warm their hands because you’ll look so hot), Charcoal/Teal (Teal is such an IT colour this season, make sure you have plenty of it, you can’t go wrong!)

Shoes: Lazy Places, ‘Myth Boots’ Winter Centaur Black Swan Edition (am totally digging thse boots, when I’m not wearing my DD Messina heels you’ll catch me getting around in these cute boots, you can tell they are made with love, the attention to detail that Sakura & Sven have put into them, the boots themselves and the snow scripts are just gorgeous – you guys rock!)

Skin: Obscene, Kathirat (face Glitter)

Hair:  TSM, Wrapped Rock Blood (Helena has done a great job with these styles, love the hint of flexi and the hair clips are a lovely finish to it)

Finally, my favourite outfit I modelled on the day, Blue Blood offers up exactly how to get around in the pattern of the season, Argyle.  I’ve been clip clopping all over the grid wearing this outfit since last Friday and I’m having a very hard time getting her out of it, I’m sure you’ll understand why when you see the pictures ;)

Clothes: Blue Blood, ‘Florencia’ Teal (yes!! Teal again – do it, go now and search your wardrobe for some!!) Honestly, if you could ever put; Modest and sexy in the same sentence together, it would perfectly describe this beautiful dress.  Impeccable attention to detail has gone into the design, from the knitted Argyle skirts to the felt button down front, to the way it moves as you crunch lightly through the snow or ice skate on your favourite pond, this is the dress you want to be out and about in all those Winterized Sims this season!!  It also comes in a variety of colours; Teal (worn), Black, Red and Purple – you can’t go wrong with any of the colours as they are all rich deep tones.

Shoes: Lazy Places, ‘Myth Boots’ Winter Centaur Black Swan Edition (Did I mention above that you need to get a pair of these boots? they are just fun fun fun & are a good way to completely change the look of any outfit)

Skin: Obscene, ‘Freya’ No Glitter (these are some of the prettiest skins around at the moment,  I’m wishing that I modelled as Newdoll so I could of had these skins in my main wardrobe because they are just lovely, the makeups are so pretty but not overdone and I love the rosey cheeks, giving you that light ’snow tan’ look.  Kuja has really worked some magic into these skins, they are stunning, the lip colours are gorgeous.  I honestly just can’t fault them at all.  I haven’t seen one person wearing them that didn’t look beautiful.

Hair: TSM ‘Wrapped’ Rock Camo, with Hair Jewels – Helena I love love LOVE these snowflake hair jewels!!

All fashions currently available at Black Swan until January 9

So I’m a Post 6 Grrrl

First and foremost, thanks has to go to Bunny for allowing me to be a Post 6 Grrrl, <3 you Bun Bun, no matter what your profile says *wink*.  You know I’m still dying to be in your Graphic novel & I’m looking forward to working with you again soon!

Now story time.

Way back when I was a little noob still finding my way around our big wide Second world, a very patient woman helped me out, taught me how to ‘emote’ and put more feeling into what I was chatting, gave suggestions on how to engage people and ‘build a picture’ with my words.  She really took the time to Role play with me and set me to thinking how to more actively engage in RP and helped me to see the benefits that could be gained out of it . (You see, for me, Second life is the first virtual environment where I’ve ever interacted virtually with other people).

That was Silk Fussbudget.

Silk also hinted that I should give serious thought to my appearance, gave me suggestions on places that I should shop, helped me think about creating ‘images’ to achieve a look.  Every time I saw Silk she looked completely different.  From a dazzling beautiful fairy, to a bald headed tattooed Lesbian, Silk always wowed me with her looks.  I was very much in awe of the ease of how she was able to create these persona’s.   I have to thank Silk for telling me about Szentasha & the thigh high latex boots that I still slip on occasionally when I’m putting together one of my fantasy outfits.

Oh & I have to give complete credit to her for telling me Goldie Locks Hair. I had Hairgasms the day I stepped into that store.  Now that I think about it, that was the first time I threw caution to the wind and ended up buying 5-6 different styles in the one shop at the same time.  (I used to agonise over hairstyles & whether they would suit me or not).  Now I know even the most die hard of you will be saying ‘thats nothing’ but to a noob only being in world for a couple of months it was a revelation to find a place that had so many styles, that were so reasonably priced with great colour pack variations.  And yes, again, every once in a while, I’ll put one of their styles or another on to see how it looks.

Sienna was my signature hair.  Every time I put it on when I was a dancer, people would sit there mesmerized as I would wrap them up in it like a blanket, play hidey in there, do all sorts of naughteh things while other people couldn’t see through my long full lustrous locks.  I became well known for my “hair jobs”.

The point to my story about Silk is that not long after I met her, Silk became a Post 6 Grrrl.  I was so in awe of knowing this lovely person that the whole of SL knew as well. So, in light of my recent honour, I dedicate my Post 6 Grrrl status for the week to Silk & all those other unsung heroes that spend their patient time holding Noobies hands as they take their toddler steps through Second life.

YES! You can handle it – but can the boys?

I really don’t know where to begin with this blog.  Needless to say, this dress is one of the most exciting purchases I’ve made recently, its one of those incredibly versatile items that you’ll have forever and a day and it will never go out of style.

So frantic in my efforts to get a notice out there (encouraged by the irrepressible Whims – thank you hunni) I really didn’t get a chance to show you some options I’d consider with this dress;

Throw a pair of jeans on underneath and some flat ballet shoes

Swathe yourself in pearls and your treat yourself to your Stiletto Moody’s (for me its the D’Orsays but if you have them, slide into the Pinups – I hate you – kidding)

You could even throw on a jacket over the top for those cooler evenings (who am I kidding – I’m in Australia, it NEVER gets cool here ;p)

Or, take off the skirt and wear the bodice with your favourite long Tulle Skirt (mine is an Autumn Tulle Skirt from Digit Darkes)

I could go on and on an on but instead I’ll give you a big shove to Truth, go – now – buy!

Omg I’ve got stuffs for sale – woohooo

So its only taken me ummmmmmm…. what was I saying again? ;p

Well yeah, its taken me a little while to finally pull finger and actually sell stuff.  I don’t have a store inworld but have set up Onrez & SLX (Xstreet, whatever its called these days >_<).

Watch this space & maybe I’ll get a little store inworld up and running too, or maybe someone can spare me a little corner at their store ^_^

What a buzz… lol

So what am I selling at the moment? For now its a 10 pose pack, called ‘Lovin’ Life’.  They’re just really happy fun poses that have you jumping in the air with joy.  The pack itself has 9 poses advertised, but there are actually 10 poses in all, a surprise for now ;)

I do intend to list the poses individually so you’ll have the option just to purchase one pose buy itself as well (what you don’t want ALL of these poses? ;p)

Noodle Box - Lovin Life Pose Pack

Noodle Box - Lovin Life Pose Pack

These were a lot of fun to make and I hope you have fun with them too!  Every time I use them it puts a smile on my face.  Just incase you’re wondering where this picture was taken, its at Jigoku, Higashiosaka which was made by Donpatchy, who was the artist that gifted Colemarie an amazing statue, which you can view here.

And as for making poses? Well I’ve used Qavimator, which is free software that you can download for free.  Want to know how to make poses, check out Natalia Zelmanov’s Blog here.

And please, contact me inworld too, am more than happy to help out ^_^.

Finally, I need to thank Sasy & Winter for encouraging me with these and finally listing them for sale, love you guys.
